i was also wondering this.
maybe because they seem to be more well off (wealthier than she)
oh, i got the impression it was the other way round. like cus she thinks they're "common," (pg399) they have lower social status.
don't know. definitely a societal issue though.
part of me believes she is envious of the way they live, it seems much more free than the Aunt's life.
I read some background & in the time Daisy is set americans were visiting europe for the first time & there were two types of tourists
Expats with American manners like Daisy and Expats that went above and beyond European manners and standards hence the treatment of Daisy
