hmm..then wouldn't products that tan your skin be racist also?
brands like Nivia and Garnier
Its the commercial more than the coloring of the skin I believe.
The commercial is basically saying that the whiter the skin the more chances of getting a job and women are more easier.
generally if you get a tan its natural either way, tanning agents or not, and it would reflect a healthier skin tone.
saying that if you lighten your skin you look better, or can get a girl because of it, when your race is naturally dark is to me racist.
I think saying you should change your skin color in any commercial be it lighter or darker should be considered racist. That's all I'm
pointing out. If it's wrong one way, it should be wrong another. And to single out one without the other is hypocritical.
Sounds to me like your just playing devils advocate really.
And devils advocate or ignorance never really did much to protect people against racism.
Not saying your ignorant, but if you were to watch the commercial compared to a tanning commercial then perhaps you could see the difference
No, that's not where my mindset is at all. I don't like the commercial. But I do believe singling that out without calling out ALL companies
that promote changing a skin color would make you better, sexier, healthier, whatever, ruins the argument. Just my humble opinion and not
Thats not what the commercial points out though is it.
meant to play devil's advocate and yes, I am far from ignorant so I didn't take it that way.
Its a commercial talking about whitening skin.
I think promoting tan skin is equally as bad for various other reasons tho.. I don't however see it as racist. Perhaps unhealthy.
Why not if saying that darker skin makes you sexier? And yes, that is what a lot of tanning products promote.
I think healthier is sexier myself. I think many people do.> For a light skinned person being bronzed and tan is a healthier look.
Again, I don't like the commercial ..I'm only saying that for people (people in general here) then they need to remember it goes both ways.
For naturally dark skinned people you can get darker through tanning as well.. but having someone lighten their natural tone isn't natural.
I'm more hit by the irony of the whole thing, light skinned folks trying to get darker skin, dark skinned folk doing the opposite.
To me lightening skin would be in a sense wanting to look like a different race. As with darkening its something that is naturally possible
Because nothing says sexy like skin cancer and chemical treatments.
I'm more upset at the commercial with the US brands selling it that way to others. Didn't mean to ruffle feathers.
I suppose its naturally possible to lighten your skin if you die.. but thats just not sexy at all. lol
