Cliques were more intuitive, and easier to sort. I've got so many requests coming in, I can't keep up. AND I don't know how to view them!

thru the non-mobile site, Alerts shows your requests/friends and lets you bulk respond - cliques are still apparently manual adds... ick

In my general timeline I can tell which ones are Clique messages; there's a small icon at the bottom of message window.

so far, I think it's a 'speak to' function, not a 'see only' function
