We have our arguments, but generally speaking my family gets along with each other pretty well...

In the same vein, I guess I don't really understand how some parents (like yours!) can treat their children how they do. :/

Granted, I accept that there -are- families like that, but that sort of mentality seems equally foreign to me. :x

Kind of similar to marrying someone they don't truly love... I know it happens, but regardless of what excuse...

It is a bit strange to me as well. I'm a bit jealous of it, having never experienced it, but I wonder if it is really real. Don't know.

...and with my extended family, it feels like we don't -really- like each other very much, just acting nice to each other out of formality.
