75 years ago today, on 12 Nov 1944, Lancasters of IX and 617 Squadrons sank the Tirpitz, Nazi Germany's largest and most powerful warship.

The Tirpitz threatened the Allied fleet, so from 1940, attempts had been made to destroy her using a variety of aircraft including Hampdens, Wellingtons and Blenheims.
